Order Against Constitutional Spirit: CPI(M)

Ranchi/New Delhi:The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly objected to the recent order issued by the Government of India regarding the National Song and the National Anthem. The party stated that the order is not in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution.

In its press statement, the CPI(M) noted that Article 51A(a) of the Constitution clearly lays down the duty of every citizen to respect the National Flag and the National Anthem. The party recalled that the Constituent Assembly, after detailed deliberations, had accepted the statement made by President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, which specified that only the first two stanzas of the National Song would be sung.

According to the Polit Bureau, the government is now attempting to include the remaining four stanzas, which the Constituent Assembly had felt did not fully reflect the secular character of the Indian Republic.

The CPI(M) alleged that the BJP-led Union government is trying to create an unnecessary controversy over the National Song and the National Anthem for political motives. The party asserted that the government should not be allowed to interfere with such historic and cultural symbols.

The CPI(M) demanded that the government uphold the spirit of the Constitution and immediately withdraw the order.
