Government Takes Thalassemia Issues Seriously; Matter to Be Raised in the Assembly

Ranchi :: Under the “Visit the Representatives of Jharkhand” campaign, a 29–member delegation comprising thalassemia patients, their family members, blood donors, and social activists met the Hon’ble MLA of Kanke (Ranchi), Mr. Suresh Baitha, at his Kanke residence today.

The delegation represented the “Lahu Bolega” Blood Donation Organization, Ranchi, and the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients’ Association. During the meeting, they submitted a 14-point charter of demands related to thalassemia and a 19-point memorandum concerning blood donation.

The MLA’s representative, Mr. Shameem Barihar, assisted throughout the meeting.

The Hon’ble MLA assured the delegation, stating:

“We fully support your demands. I will raise this matter in the upcoming session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.”
He also announced that a “Mega Blood Donation Drive” will be organized in January in memory of Hon’ble Guruji Shibu Soren.

Showing prompt action, MLA Suresh Baitha called the RIMS Director and the Ranchi Civil Surgeon, instructing them to:

Ensure uninterrupted blood supply to thalassemia and sickle cell patients,

And provide all essential medicines free of cost to the patients.

Delegation Also Meets Minister Yogendra Prasad

In the evening, the delegation met the Hon’ble Minister of Jharkhand, Mr. Yogendra Prasad, at his Smart City residence in Ranchi and submitted memorandums related to thalassemia and blood donation.

The Hon’ble Minister said:“Discussions on this issue have already taken place. There is a consensus to provide free and donor-free blood to thalassemia patients. Additionally, blood donors will receive a refreshment allowance of ₹100. The ACS/Principal Secretary, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, and all concerned officials have agreed. Orders will be issued soon.”

The delegation presented floral bouquets to both the Hon’ble Minister and the Hon’ble MLA as a gesture of gratitude.
