Writers’ Role Crucial in the Struggle to Save the Constitution: JALESA Conference

Ranchi: The 8th District Conference of the Janwadi Lekhak Sangh (JALESA), Bokaro, was held at Banshi Lal Banshi Auditorium and Shivnath Pramanik Manch. The conference was presided over by JALESA Bokaro President Lalan Tiwari, while the proceedings were conducted by Kumar Satyendra, Secretary of JALESA Jharkhand. The conference was inaugurated by renowned Hindi and Khortha litterateur Prahlad Chandra Das.

The chief guest of the conference was Dr. Ali Imam Khan, National Secretary of JALESA, and the keynote speaker was eminent writer Gopal Prasad. Addressing the theme “Threats to the Constitution and the Responsibility of Writers,” the speakers stated that the fascist central government is gradually moving towards dismantling the Constitution under the guise of religion. They said the government is systematically abolishing the rights of farmers and workers to serve corporate interests.

The speakers further alleged that the government is conspiring to subordinate the judiciary, just as it has attempted to control the media. They asserted that the RSS is the real force behind the government, seeking to plunge the country into hatred and impose the Manusmriti. As part of this well-planned agenda, attacks on minorities, Dalits, and marginalized sections are being carried out. The speakers warned that if voices are not raised against this authoritarianism, the country’s social harmony, democracy, and identity will face serious danger. In such times, they emphasized, it is the historic duty of progressive writers and intellectuals to raise public awareness.

During the conference, Ajay Yatish, District Secretary of JALESA, presented the report of the previous term. This was followed by the election of the new district executive committee. Lalan Tiwari was unanimously elected President; Ajay Yatish and Kaveri Ji as Vice Presidents; Shanti Bharat as Secretary; Pradeep Kumar Deepak and Hubalal Alakaha as Joint Secretaries; Shyam Sundar Kevat as Treasurer; and Kumar Satyendra, Dr. Subodh Shailansh, Dr. Sujata Kumari, Dr. Nageshwar Mahato, and Sangeeta Kumari as members.

Additionally, Prahlad Chandra Das and Gopal Prasad were included as invited members for broader guidance. The conference was attended by Rajkumar Gorai, General Secretary of the Ispat Mazdoor Morcha, Bokaro; R. P. Verma of the Jan Sanskriti Manch; Bhim Mahato; and hundreds of writers, lyricists, and artists.
